Weekly Update 3/29/2020

On December 3, 2018 by Michelle G Black

MGES Explorers and families,

We continue to miss seeing each of you and hope you and your families are safe and healthy. If you have a need, please contact your students’ teachers, our school counselors, or our administrators. We want to support families in this unique time. You can always call the school at 803-821-0400.

At this point, I’m sure you are well into your distance learning experience and I want to remind you that teachers are ready to support that process. They are reaching out through virtual class meetings but they are also available by email and phone if that works better for you. The current learning packet will take us up to Spring Break.

Spring Break begins Monday, April 6 and goes through Monday, April 13. Take that time to enjoy each other and relax!

On Tuesday, April 14, MGES will host a drive-through pickup for our Phase 2 Distance Learning materials. This will happen from 8:00am – 1:00pm and 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm. These packets will support learning through April 30. We are making individual printed packets for EVERY STUDENT. Teachers are working this week to design materials that meet the needs of all of our students. Someone will simply need to drive through the front parking lot to be handed materials for your student. If you would like to turn in your student’s first packet, you will be able to do that. Otherwise, feel free to hold onto those documents until later.

The material will be labeled Days 13 through 25. These days are flexible based on the needs of your family. Also, the learning packets are the only ‘required’ materials. Teachers are providing additional resources but all of those are optional learning opportunities. Our plan for Phase 2 is to compile these additional resources into one location and provide you access to that. Look for this information in the cover letter with your new packet.

Free meals to any child through 18 years old are available Monday – Friday. The closest location to our school is Oak Grove Elementary School. There are also multiple community delivery spots.
